Pathway Description

COMPASS (Community of Musicians, Performers, Artists, and Social Scientists) is a small learning community focused on preparing students for life after high school by helping them to develop into community-minded artists and social scientists. The arts are a vehicle for helping students to develop a sociological perspective that will allow them to gain a better understanding of themselves and the world around them.

Sample Schedule

This schedule is a sample of what COMPASS students will take based on pathway requirements and high school graduation/A-G requirements.

All students at Millikan take A-G courses and have the option to take any AP Classes offered.  We encourage COMPASS students to take AP Classes in subjects that they enjoy and are strong in, as we know these are probably the areas they will pursue further in college.

  • 9th Grade-- Single Subject Integration, English and Art Project: What does it mean to be an American? Interview/Essay and Arts Based Project
  • 10th Grade-- Integrated Project, Virtue and Vengeance:
    Art, History, and English Collaborative Project
  • Culminating Senior Projects: Holiday Show, Music in the Air, Fashion and Dance Collaborative Show, MHS Orchestra collaboration with Musica Angelica, Musical

One of the things I love most about the Compass pathway is being able to connect art and education, and being able to creatively reflect knowledge in a different way beyond written essays and assignments. Another reason why I love being part of Compass is being surrounded by talented and inspiring students and teachers who share their love of art.
