Attendance

Dear Parents/Guardians:

When you are involved, your child achieves more!  Research shows that regardless of the economic, ethnic, or cultural background of the family, when parents/guardians are involved in their student's education, students have:

  • Higher grades, test scores, and graduation rates
  • Better school attendance
  • Increased motivation
  • Better self-esteem
  • Lower rates of suspension
  • Decreased use of drugs and alcohol
  • Fewer instances of violent behavior
  • Greater enrollment rates in post-secondary education

Here are several things that you can do to monitor your student's progress:

  • Expect your student to have homework.
  • Check your student's attendance in ParentVue
  • Check your student's grades on the Canvas
  • If you do not have Internet access, your student can obtain grade printouts from his/her teachers.
  • Participate in Back-to-School, Open House and College Parent Nights.
  • Stay in contact with your student's teachers and counselor.
  • Check ParentVue for Progress Reports and Report Cards.

Returning to School After an Absence

Upon the student's return to school, the absence must be cleared. This will be done in one of the following ways:
1. The student can submit their note to the Attendance office, before school, during nutrition, during lunch, or after their school day has ended.
2. Parents/guardians can send an email to the Millikan Attendance Office (millikanattendance@lbschools.net).
When submitting a note to clear an absence, please include the following:
1. Student’s full name
2. Grade
3. Student ID number
4. Reason for absence
5. Date/s absent
6. Parents/guardian name and phone number
Please do this to avoid an unexcused absence. If the submitted note falls within the state-approved absences guidelines, it will be denoted as excused.
● Excused absences (Per EC 48205): illness (doctor verification required after three consecutive days), medical or dental appointment (doctor verification required), funeral service for an immediate family member (limit one day within the state of California, three days out of state), court appearance, religious/cultural ceremony or event
